Prudence in the Daintree Room

A$25,000.00

2m x 1.6m, acrylic on canvas. I met Prue a decade ago- she gave me a 2hr walking tour of the Daintree (she was 76 at the time, now an amazingly spritely 86!) , a place she has called home for the last 40 years. She is an incredible person: a conservationist, and pioneer of eco tourism in the Daintree (the oldest contiguous rainforest on the planet!) and lifelong educator who is knowledgeable beyond measure. She really stuck with me all this time, and inspired me to create this work; she truly embodies my Bush-Wah-Zee series- flanked by exclusively Daintree flora and the famous cassowary “Big Bertha”(she has graced the pages of National Geographic multiple times!) who has lived on Prue’s land for decades, keeping the species numbers strong in the area for years. Prue is a powerhouse of a woman and it was a joy to paint her- she deserves every honor that comes her way as she fights for the rainforest she loves to be able to continue to exist in its best form for hundreds of years to come.
