Muriel in the Lounge
The fourth painting in my Bush-Wah Zee (Bourgeoisie) series, this piece reflects the idea that traditional Australiana can be unapologetically high-end. Inspired by De Gournay’s hand-painted wallpapers, I wanted to create a space with Australian flora, focused on a central figure in the room. The figures that loom largest to me in the bush are often the parrots- they’re so incredibly beautiful and so incredibly loud. They will not be ignored, and neither will Muriel.
